The African American Cultural Center hosts a series of events every year that have come to be known as our Signature Events. Events are open to all students, faculty, and staff, and everyone is encouraged to participate and learn.

Harambee!

The African American Cultural Center’s annual Harambee! campus welcome celebration offers the opportunity for all to come together at the beginning of the new academic year. Get acquainted with the center and its warm and welcoming community. All are welcome.

What’s on the Table?

What’s on the Table (WOTT) is the African American Cultural Center’s weekly space for the campus to come together to unpack important conversations essential to our community.

Kwanzaa

Kwanzaa celebrates the seven principles of the Nguzo Saba.

While celebrated early on campus, Kwanzaa is a week-long holiday, from December 26 through January 1. It is a time to reflect on your actions over the previous year and to renew your commitments for the following year.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Campus Commemoration

Join us each January for events celebrating and commemorating the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Past speakers have included Dick Gregory, Iyanla Vanzant, Symone Sanders, Benjamin Jealous and lectures by numerous NC State scholars and immersive virtual reality exhibits.

Black History and Futures Month

The African American Cultural Center invites you to celebrate Black History and Futures Month with us – a month-long celebration at NC State.

National Library Week at the African American Cultural Center Library

The week of April 6th 2026, the African American Cultural Center (AACC) will host our 2nd Annual celebration of National Library Week (NLW) with the theme of Libraries as Spaces of Opportunity.   Built upon the principles of Ubuntu (“I am because we are”) and Sankofa (“It is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind”), the African American Cultural Center’s celebration of National Library Week seeks to uplift ways to utilize the knowledge to be found within specialized collections and the representation of African American authors, special collections, and archives.

Symposium on Afrofuturism and Diasporic Scholarship

The Symposium on Afrofuturism and Diasporic Scholarship features diasporic learning, scholarship, and epistemologies via cutting-edge research, storytelling, creative works, discussion circles, and community projects from NC State and the local community. This symposium promotes student success by elevating diasporic scholarship, research, and intellectual rigor. 

Ebony Harlem Awards of Excellence

Ebony Harlem is an annual event that honors and recognizes the contributions of undergraduate and graduate students on campus who are connected to the AACC.  We also honor the contributions, work, and mentorship of staff and faculty who support our students each year; celebrate our graduates.

Juneteenth

The NC State inaugural Juneteenth is an intimate afternoon of community, rest, and celebration! NC State partners have come together to bring a wellness-centered joyful celebration including FREE food trucks, a DJ, chair massages, pop-up fitness, self-care kits, and community vibes!
