Home to 6000+ books centering African-American and Afro diasporic experiences, culture, society, and history, the AACC library is embodiment of Sankofa.

Borrowing 

The collection supports the entire NC State University community with special emphasis on students, faculty, and staff researching and/or connected to Africana Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies and the Interdisciplinary Studies Course (IDS). The African American Cultural Center Library is an affiliate of the NC State University Libraries.

You can browse the shelves and check out items in person, or request items to be sent to one of the main library branches through the catalog, with an expected delivery time of 4 to 7 business days. The AACC library also has a growing collection of technology to check out in person. We hope to see you soon!

please remember to take your food with you as this fridge is periodically cleaned out and unlabeled food may be disposed of.

Services

The library has wireless access, offering an NC State University network for faculty, staff, and students, as well as a guest network for visitors.
Using your personal computer, you can access library services offered through the NC State University Libraries:

  • Access to the collections through the library’s search interface
  • Combined access to the library catalogs of NC State, Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, and North Carolina Central University through the Library Catalog (choose Triangle research libraries)
  • AskUs service, with staff available 24 hours to provide help IM, text message, email, or phone
  • Access to digitized images and texts from the Special Collections Research Center with historical information about NC State
  • Course-related services, including Course Tools and Course Reserves
  • Interlibrary Services, for requesting books or articles not available at NC State

Come LOCK IN on your finals and goals with the African American Cultural Center for extended hours April 29, 30, and May 1st until 10pm!

The library and gallery, and 3rd floor spaces will remain open until 10pm so bring your study groups, friends or come solo to join us for a warm and supportive environment as you lock in on your goals!

Join us this Monday, April 6 2026, 6-8pm for an expert panel of authors and librarians to kick off our celebration of National Library Week! 📚📝✨The first 20 NC State students to register will get a free book (link in bio there are still spots left to get a free book!) and 2 attendees will have the chance to win our Patron Prize bundle!🎁🎁

You’ll learn how libraries can support your academic, professional, and personal growth and engage with authors and librarians to learn how to make the most of library resources, discover opportunities for research and creative projects, and understand the importance of representation in collections. This event is free and all are welcome to attend. 

The event will conclude with a book signing by bestselling authors, Dr. Zelda Lockhart and C.M. Lockhart, and attendees are welcome to purchase books at the event or bring their own copies. 📚✨
